What's Keeping You Awake?

It seems the question about sleeping for most people, isn&undefined;t whether they had a good sleep or not, it&undefined;s what is keeping you awake.  More and more people today have sleep disorders or have a hard time getting to sleep.  What&undefined;s the cause?  Is it stress and anxiety?  Is it what we are eating? Is it lack of exercise?  TV?  It could be one or a combination of all the above.  Times have change.  We move around a lot less with our desk jobs.  We are staring at the computer or television, taking in enormous amounts of information.  Most of it useless information. We are not sitting down together eating healthy meals three times a day.  Add to it all, the pressure of career and making money in a depressed economy.  Yes, everything is moving faster.  The active mind is hard to turn off at night.

If getting a good night sleep is something you have always dreamed of, you should look at improving your habits on all the above.  Eating healthier, exercise and stress relief will all help.  The most important thing you can do for a restful sleep, is learn how to calm the mind.  This takes time and effort to learn, but very valuable as a sleep remedy .  Most people are tossing and turning at night because they are thinking so much.  Learn breathing exercises, energy exercises, meditation, go to yoga class - anything to learn to master the mind.  Unless you are a rare specimen who doesn&undefined;t need 6-8 hours sleep each night, your body and mind are tired and could use the down time.  So what&undefined;s keeping you awake?  If you are tired you would think you could just drift off.  But that active mind of worries keeps you up.  There are many books on meditation and how to slow the mind down and connect to your inner body - these will help. It will take time, but soon eneough you will learn to conk yourself out.

If you're sleep deprived or are facing sleep problems check your lifestyle and the foods you eat. If you are experiencing stress and is unable to find relaxation for yourself then definitely you are going to face sleep problems. Another factor is the food you eat, habitual tea drinkers struggle a lot with their sleep routines, its true caffeine does interfere with sleep patterns. So make some adjustments and also instead of relaxing in front of the TV sets which is more of a corporate business then filling your brain with knowledge, spend your time constructively.
