Vitamin D Increases Testosterone Levels in Men

Vitamin D is the most talked about and researched supplement over the last few years and it's making the headlines once again - this time as a testosterone booster in men that increases energy and libido levels.

New findings from Austrian researchers studied the link between vitamin D and testosterone levels in 2200 men. They found that men that had the highest levels of vitamin D in their blood had the highest libido and testosterone levels. The study, published in the journal Clinical Endocrinology also found that the vitamin D and testosterone levels peaked in August and were at its lowest levels in March.

Vitamin D is a naturally occurring vitamin that is produced by the skin when exposed to sunlight and can play a major role in preventing osteoporosis, cancer, arthritis, high blood pressure, diabetes and multiple sclerosis. It is also found in some foods such as salmon, mackerel and fortified milk.

Testosterone is a steroid hormone secreted in the testicles or males and the ovaries of females as well as the adrenal glands. Testosterone plays a critical role in male sex drive, bone development, muscle and fat composition, memory and energy levels as well as immune function.

Another reason to supplement vitamin D, especially during the dark winter months.
