Top 5 Healthiest Breakfast Foods

We have all heard before that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Studies have shown that people who eat breakfast are slimmer, may live longer, and are even more mentally aware. If you have not eaten for over twelve hours after sleeping, your energy levels are low and healthy foods are the only way to fuel your body and get yourself through the day. Although any breakfast is better than no breakfast, you should try not to eat such things as pastries or high sugar foods in the morning (or anytime for that matter). Here are the top five breakfast foods to start your day off on the right foot.

1. Cereal. Both hot and cold cereals are good choices. Cold cereal provides nutrition from both the milk (calcium), and the cereal-make sure you choose a cereal that is whole grain and sugar free. Hot cereals are also a quick, healthy meal that is full of fiber and keeps you feeling full until lunch time.

2. Eggs. Eggs are an excellent source of protein that keeps you feeling full all day. Try making an omelet filled with veggies like mushrooms, green peppers, and tomatoes-hold the cheese to keep your calorie intake at bay. Women who eat eggs regularly have been shown to lose 65% more weight than their counterparts.

3. Smoothies. Home made smoothies are the best choice as you know exactly what is being put in them. Try combining a banana with some frozen fruit (strawberries, blueberries, etc.), non fat yogurt, and skin milk. You can even add some powdered vitamin C, or a scoop of ground flax seed to increase the nutritional value.

4. Cottage cheese and fruit. Cottage cheese contains a very high amount of protein with very little fat, and fruit provides fiber and other essential nutrients.

5. Whole grain bagel with non fat cream cheese. Although a bagel should be one of your last choices, if you need to eat on the go-a whole grain bagel is the best choice. Try not to load it with cream cheese, jam, or butter and save on calories.

Eating a hearty, healthy breakfast along with a healthy lunch and light dinner will aid in weight loss and a healthy eating pattern.

Don't eat low or non fat ANYTHING! Same goes for low or no sugar, or salt. The alternatives used to adjust taste are far worse. Aspartame in particular has been replaced for the most part by sucralose. Sucralose is just as bad, they just won't say so for a few years, much like they did with aspartame. Just eat things you know grew as the earth intend them to, this includes milk!! Hormones are aweful, but the amount of antibiotics people are ingesting is down right dangerous!

This is what I normally eat, is it healthy?

Breakfast:  a Deluxe breakfast with Hotcakes from McDonald's, large Orange Juice

Lunch:  A #3 combo from Wendy's (Triple Bacon Classic) with large fries and large Coke

Dinner:  Three slices of pizza, an order of mozzarella sticks, 2 glasses of Coke

Dessert:  A pint of Haagen Dazs ice cream (Vanilla Chocolate Chip)

I feel like its a pretty healthy diet.  I don't think I'm getting enough calories though.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day but this is the most skipped meal by people also. The importance of eating breakfast is ignored by almost everyone including the teenagers. It must be remembered that breakfast is the one that supplies energy throughout the day to surpass the class, work or any activity. Skipping breakfast leads to weakness, less energy and minimal concentration. Thanks to this blog for emphasizing the importance of eating breakfast and giving examples as well. Any food though will suffice during breakfast. Just add milk and vitamins to it to make it more healthier.

Cannot believe all this rubbish. A good breakfast is cooked in best quality olive oil such as eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes and black pudding. No bread and no milk. Also could have scambled egg with bacon and tomatoes or maybe eggs florentine. Occasionally full fat organic yoghurt with fresh berries. No carbohydrate or sugar. Starts the day very well and does not sap energy levels or leave you needing a snack mid-morning. No low fat or low anything foods as they are just a chemical cocktail rather than a food. Can lose weight being careful like this as well.

Breakfast is an essential meal that should never be skipped. It kick starts your metabolism and gives you the energy you need to take on the day. If you skip breakfast and don't eat until lunch that's the same as going at least 12-14 hours without eating. An example of a good breakfast would be: a bowl of a high fiber, whole grain cereal topped with some fruit, and low fat yogurt. Not all cereals are high in sugar or made up of just carbs. And there are low fat and low sugar yogurt choices. In addition, that's just one example of a healthy breakfast. Life would be boring if that's what you had every morning. There are healthy choices for almost any breakfast food.

Why the hell do you think that's healthy? Everything you said that you eat is filled with too many calories, carbs, and fats. An example of what you should be eating: Breakfast: A bowl of granola (Kashi cereal), milk (soy, rice), and sliced bananas. Lunch: A spinach salad with a light vinaigrette and tomatoes. Dinner: Chicken Cacciatore or Miso-Ginger Marinated Grilled Salmon [Bobby Flay] Desert: Nothing. Desert is the worst meal of the day-> the only meal you should NOT be eating. Desert is usually eaten late at night. It's bad to eat before bed because you are still digesting dinner. it takes longer to digest dinner than any other meal of the day. and when you eat desert right after you eat dinner, it takes muchhh longer to digest the food. you gain more weight when you eat desert, esp. when you eat junk like ice cream and brownies. i hope you took this into consideration. you seriously should be eating better. more fruits, veggies, protein, vitamins, and water. you should be eating less fried foods, fats, carbs, and candy

NOT FROM WIKIPEDIA: Breakfast (literally meaning "breaking the fast" of the night) is the first meal taken after rising from a night's sleep, most often eaten in the early morning before undertaking the day's work.[1] Among English speakers, "breakfast" can be used to refer to this meal, or, less commonly, to refer to a meal composed of traditional breakfast foods (eggs, oatmeal, sausages, etc) served at any time of day. Breakfast foods vary widely from place to place, but often include a carbohydrate such as grains, fruit and/or vegetable, protein, dairy, and beverage. Coffee, tea, juice, cereal, pancakes, sausages, bacon, sweet breads, fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, baked beans, muffins, crumpets and toast with butter and/or jam are common examples of breakfast foods, though a large range of preparations and ingredients are associated with breakfast globally.[2] Nutritional experts[3] have referred to breakfast as the most important meal of the day, citing studies find that people who skip breakfast are disproportionately likely to have problems with concentration, metabolism, and weight.[4][5]

Thought you sounded relatively smart at first then you said and I quote; "Any food though will suffice during breakfast. Just add milk and vitamins to it to make it more healthier." Such a stupid comment. So I take it you can have five big macs, some bacon and chips then pop a multivitamin with a glass of milk and be sweet?? Calories are calories, saturated fat is saturated fat (etcetc) whenever you eat them. Even if you were just reffering to normal cereals that have the added vitamins, there all packed full of sugar or other crap anyway. Do yourself a favour and eat some good nothing added oat based breakfast with a little bit of fruit. Simple as that.

Food is energy. What is the best breakfast for you depends entirely on the makeup of your typical days activities. A fatty high sugar breakfast may be entirely appropriate if you plan to do some physically strenuous work before your next meal. Key things that a Breaky should have are vitamins, electrolytes, and minerals, protein, dietary fibre, and carbohydrate. Because as a single meal you need to put so much nutritional value in it (to replenish from the fasting state) low nutritional value high calorie foods aren't recommended. Fruit, grains, nuts, seeds, and dairy or lean meat are very good things to include in a breakfast. The more nutritious fuel you have to start the day the more strength and stamina you'll have throughout the day and the more calories you can then burn through physical activity. My personal favorite breakfast is 35 grams of rolled oats soaked in the juice of a Grapefruit overnight (mix the pulp in as well). Then sprinkle a table spoon of mixed unsalted nuts and seeds over that and a leveled table spoon of wheat germ over that. Add a scoop of fat free natural yoghurt and serve with 100 mil of milk (low fat or high fat depending on when you plan to exercise). I tend to go low fat low sugar at Breaky as I do gym closer to lunch. I have a small fatty sugary morning tea (like a scone or a piece of chocolate) before gym. Fat and sugar or any food isn't bad for you - it depends what you do with it and how much of it you have.

What horible advice. Smoothie? Are you joking? Those are CHALKED full of sugar. Sugar is not what you need in the morning. Cereal is HARDLY a good idea as well, since it consists of mostly carbs. You need a mix of protien and complex carbs as a solid foundation. It will regulate your metabolism so that you aren't hungry 1 hour after eating. a couple eggs with some good hearty squirrely bread is a good start. This article SUCKS!
