Top 5 Foods for Men
Although traditionally men have not exactly been pro-active about their health, this is beginning to change. Instead of only caring about health when a sickness or disease come into play, more and more men are becoming pro active when it comes to maintaining their health -mostly by paying more attention to their lifestyle and nutritional habits. Here are the top five foods men should be eating on an every day basis to keep themselves healthy.
2. Fruits & Vegetables: Many men do not get enough fruits and vegetables-especially if they are used to the classic meat and potatoes diet. Men should be eating at least five servings the size of a fist of fruits and vegetables daily, if not more. They not only provide important vitamins and minerals essential for health, but they keep your regular. Try swapping half of your pasta for a handful of vegetables, or ordering a burger with a salad instead of fries.
3. Folate: Folate is important for men as it is a potent cancer fighter; it decreases blood pressure, and even unclogs arteries. Folate can be found in orange juice, leafy greens, and spinach.
4. Nuts: Nuts provide the body with “good fats” and Omega 3’s. Eating a handful of nuts before a meal can aid in digestion and also help your body digest sugars (like those in pastas) properly. Both almonds and walnuts are good choices as a pre meal snack.
5. Tomato Sauce or Fresh Tomatoes: Tomatoes contain cancer fighting compounds and also put men at a decreased risk for stroke, impotence, memory loss, and aging of the skin. Tomato sauce is actually more recommended than tomatoes, as it one tablespoon of the sauce takes about 165 raw tomatoes to get the same nutritional benefits.
