Top 5 Foods for Healthy Teeth

You probably know that eating sugary foods can do harm to your teeth. But did you know that some kinds of foods can actually help your teeth. Eating them gives similar benefits to brushing and flossing though they most certainly should not be substituted for dental hygiene. Pick these five foods to fight bacteria, clean the teeth, remove plaque, and fight off bad breath.

1. Celery. Celery is mostly water so it is in no way, shape or form bad for your teeth. In fact, celery actually protects your teeth because it does a great job of cleaning them. It has naturally abrasive strands which naturally clean the plaque off your teeth. It is also hard to chew which requires your mouth to make more saliva which neutralizes bacterai in the mouth.

2. Kiwis. This delicious superfruit is not only full of vitamins and nutrients such as Vitamin C but can strengthen your gums as well. If your gums are tender it is more probable that you can get a bacterial infection or suffer from gingitivis or other gum related diseases.

3. Onions. Although onions may not give you minty fresh breath, they are actually good for your mouth in other ways. Onions contain powerful antibacterial sulfur compounds which are especially powerful when eaten raw.

4. Wasabi. If you are a sushi lover than here is one more reason to keep on eating it. Wasabi is a hot horse-radish like condiment that protects your teeth by decreasing your risk of cavities. It contains substances called isothiocyanates which kill cavity causing bacteria effectively.

5. Seeds. Most seeds are good for your teeth because they are rough and slough away plaque from the tooth&undefined;s surface. Try adding sesame seeds or sunflower seeds to your salad for a quick tooth cleaning even while you&undefined;re eating.

Along with eating the right foods make sure to see a dentist at least once a year for an annual check up. You should also floss and brush your teeth twice a day at a minimum.

Oral health is very important and is not time consuming at all. In addition to brushing twice a day, do floss and clean your tongue. Lick your wrist and smell after a minute and find out how your mouth smells, the smell aids you in finding out which part of your mouth needs more attention. Those who brush more than 2 times because they have a sweet tooth or take tobacco may harm the gums. Those who habitually drink tea also experience some stains but before going for bleaching try to work on the stains by rubbing with your fingertips or brushing with a mixture of teaspoonful of table salt and some drops of lemon.
