Tasty And Healthy Lunches For Kids

It can be difficult to feed your children healthy foods. First of all many kids are quite picky about what they eat and secondly they are exposed to so many unhealthy foods at school that it is hard to get them to choose a healthy packed lunch instead of fried cafeteria food. If you are running out of ideas for new and tasty lunches that will satisfy picky children, try these three ideas:

1.Pizza. Most kids like pizza and even though it may not seem like a healthy choice, it can be. Make sure the pizza is home made so that there are no processed ingredients in it. Choose a whole wheat thin crust and top it with lots of lycopene -containing tomato sauce. Go easy on the cheese and load the pizza with veggies all of all kinds-broccoli, tomatos, spinach, zucchini, and eggplant are all good choices. Eating this left over pizza will surely satisfy your children and keep them from unhealthy cafeteria pizza alternatives.

2.Hamburgers. Although they dont have a reputation for being healthy, this lunch idea can also be made healthy. Make your own hamburgers with lean beef or turkey (veggie burgers can be substituted) and use whole wheat buns. Limit unhealthy condiments like mayo but feel free to use ketchup and mustard as these aren&undefined;t too bad for you. Load the burger with veggies such as tomatoes and lettuce and top it off with a slice of low fat cheese and your kids will be in heaven.

3.Pitas. Pitas can be stuffed with just about anything and make a delicious lunch. You can make chicken caesar pitas, BLT pitas, ham and swiss pitas, or just about anything else that your kids should love yet is still healthy. Whole wheat pitas are actually healthier than most breads and it is an alternative to the regular sandwich.

The trick to getting your kids to eat healthy is to keep it fun and new. Instead of the same old peanut butter and jam sandwich, switching things up will keep your kids happy and healthy.
