Steps To Help Prevent Cancer

Cancer is one of the most feared and deadly diseases today and unfortunately, the rates of it are on the rise. Our world is polluted with toxins to the point that we are in constant contact with them, even when we don’t know it. The paint on our walls, our bedding, the foods we eat and the personal hygiene products we use can potentially have toxins in them. With the rate at which people are being diagnosed with cancer, the fear of getting it yourself is very real. It is important to focus on as many preventative techniques as you can to lower your risk.

The first step in prevention is diet. Getting enough antioxidants in your daily diet is so important and it cannot be stressed enough. Today more than ever we need a diet based on green plant foods, fruits and vegetables to boost our immune system and keep us healthy. Your diet should be a colorful one - eat tons of different colors of fresh peppers, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant, grapes, apples, bananas, oranges, etc. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage contain a cancer preventing compound so potent that is being investigated as a chemotherapy agent. Avoid sugars, processed foods, and anything high in refined carbs such as white bread or pasta.  Theses foods affect the body’s production of insulin which promoted inflammation and can cause cancer cell division.  The second best thing you can do for yourself when it comes to cancer prevention is exercise. It has been proven to protect against colon and breast cancer , and possibly endometrial, lung and prostate cancer. Physical activity also keeps your body weight at a healthy level - overweight people are at a higher risk for cancer.

Although some cancers are genetically determined, a large percentage of cancer is actually preventable. The majority of preventable cancer is caused by smoking or tobacco use. The other 40% can be prevented by healthy nutrition.
