Salba: A Super Healthy Food

Some may have already heard about this little miracle food called salba.  Salba is one of the very richest whole food sources found in nature.  It has the most Omega 3 fatty acids and fiber around.  Gram for gram, salba has eight times more Omega 3s than salmon and four times greater amounts of fiber than flax.  Salba also has six times more calcium whole milk, and even thirty percent greater antioxidant properties than those rich little blueberries.  Given these statistics, it might be worth a try.

As an all natural food source, salba has no trans fats and has very few carbohydrates.  It is non GMO certified, vegan, gluten free and Kosher.  It is therefore safe for those individuals suffering from celiac disease.

Salba also has a great deal more magnesium than some magnesium rich foods.  Broccoli for instance, pales in comparison.  Salba contains fifteen times more magnesium than broccoli.  Magnesium is very important for the formation of bones and teeth.  This mineral helps to keep them strong and assists with the absorption of calcium and potassium.  Magnesium is released in order to help relax the muscles as well.

Now calcium likewise is a vital mineral and even here salba come out on top.  Having six times more calcium than whole milk, salba is essential for the maintenance of health and overall strength.  Particularly for women, calcium is essential for the prevention of osteoporosis and should be started early in order to ensure bone health.

For those vegans and vegetarians worried about getting adequate amounts of iron in their diets without eating meat, salba can help.  Salba beats out spinach having three times more iron.  Iron is important as a carrier of oxygen from the lungs to the muscles and other organs.  Low iron can have a variety of ill consequences, anemia being the most difficult problem for vegetarians.  Adding salba to the diet can therefore be a great way to ensure one is getting enough iron without eating meat.

Finally, folate is one of the most important nutrients especially for women of childbearing age.  Folic acid is important for the early development of the fetus and is therefore recommended for all women thinking of becoming pregnant.  Salba is a good source of folate.  Folate is also imporatn for the making of DNA and RNA and both of these processes are critical to cell division and growth.
As is clear, salba gives you a super bang for your buck.  Adding this food to your diet can help you get many of the essential vitamins and minerals you need with very little effort.  As the new miracle whole food, its content seems to live up to its name.
