Maca the "Superfood" Supplement
Maca is a South American vegetable which can actually grow on the highest elevation in the world. It is original to Peru and since its discovery, has often been called a “superfood”. This amazing vegetable has a lot going for it-it is said to give you greater endurance, increase your energy and feeling of well being, improve concentration, enhance fertility and can balance hormones.
Maca Root works effectively for both mens and womens hormonal imbalances because instead of supplying plant hormones (like phytoestrogens), it acts on the hypothalamus-pituitary gland. This hormonal pathway produces precursers to male and female hormones and also affects the adrenal glands. Maca does not necessarily stimlulate this gland, but regulates it. No matter if your body is producing too much or too little of a particular hormone, consuming Maca will balance your system. There are very few, if any, other natural sources which can balance hormones in such a harmless way. Women now have an alternative to hormone replacement therapy while going through menopause. Maca root can counteract the difficulties which commonly arise during menopause-hot flashes, mood swings, nausea, and insomnia. Maca is often recommended after menopause but by starting a Maca root regimen before menopause, it may help the endocrine system to stay in balance and make an easy transition into menopause. As with any medication or supplement, you should discuss Maca root with your physician before beginning a regular regimen. Men will also find that Maca root can balance their hormones as they age. Most men experience sexual difficulties due to a general slowing down of the output of endocrine glands.
Maca root is commonly taken in powder form and mixed into liquid-making tea or other drink. It can also be sprinkled onto food or taken as a capsule. Not only is it great for your hormonal system but contains a rich supply of amino acids, complex carbohydrates (the "good carbs"), vitamins, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous and zinc.
