If you are looking for a quick, easy yet extremely nutrition snack on the go, the kiwi fruit should be your go-to fruit. Not only is this fruit delicious but it packs a lot of punch - it is considered a superfruit and provides a number of health benefits.
Rutgers University recently conducted a study of the 27 most popular fruits and the kiwi was named the most nutritionally dense of all tested. It contains an extremely high amount of Vitamin C, potassium, Vitamin E, lutein, antioxidants, folate, fiber, carotenoids, , chlorophyll, and pectin. They are an excellent choice for a source of Vitamin E because most sources of this vitamin (nuts and oils for example), are high in both fat and calories. One Kiwi fruit is less than 50 calories yet provides very high amounts of healthful minerals and vitamins that your body can use in multiple ways. Kiwis are also a great choice for Vitamin C as they contain more than oranges do. Vitamin C neutralizes the free radicals that damage cells, which can lead to cancer and other diseases. Eating kiwis regularly may preventing asthma, atherosclerosis, osteoarthritis and even certain cancers, heart disease, and strokes. This fruit is also a great choice for athletes because it can improve muscle functioning.
Kiwis are generally available in supermarkets year round although their peak season is November through to May. They can be eaten alone as delicious snack or put into salads or deserts for optimal nutrition.
