Healthy Summer Vacation Eating
Many people take their holidays in the summertime which unfortunately can mean that their healthy eating habits take a backseat. Too many people use their vacation as an excuse to eat whatever they want whenever they want. Instead of wrecking what you have worked so hard to achieve, do your best to stay on track and keep your vacation a healthy one. Here are three ideas on how to do so:
1. Avoid restaurants. Restaurant portions are not only enormous, but they often contain tons of unnecessary salt and fatty foods such as butter, cream and whipping cream in them. Even salads can be high in calories if you are not careful. If you go away try to eat in as much as possible and if you can’t, then be very wary of what you order. If you do have a salad, ask for dressing on the side and stay away from added ingredients such as chicken that have been fried. You will save
2. Drink alcohol in moderation. Sure your vacation may be the only time you are able to sip margaritas on the beach, but be careful. Most summertime drinks are loaded with calories and sugar. If you must drink then have some wine or light beer but stay away from the blended drinks.
3. Stay active. Although you may feel like you need some major R & R and down time, you will actually feel better if you stay active during your vacation. This doesn’t mean you have to work out every single day, just try to find things to do that involve activity instead of sitting around. Go swimming, play with your kids, throw a Frisbee.
If you stay as healthy as possible during your vacation, you may not dread going back to work so much. That “back to reality” mentality will be lessened if you stick to your normal (and hopefully healthy) routines during your time off.
