Have A Healing Epsom Salt Bath

Having a nice, relaxing bath can be healing unto itself, but add some epsom salts into the water and it gives amazing health benefits. The healing properties of Epsom Salt have been well-known for hundreds of years although still today many people do not use these salts regularly. This type of salt is nothing like the regular table salt that we use-it is made of two components - magnesium and sulfate. Epsom Salts provide many health benefits which are unlike any other salt. Here are three benefits:

1. Reduce stress. Stress is harmful to the body in many ways, one of them being that is depletes our magnesium levels. When dissolved in warm water Magnesium Sulfate (in Epsom Salts) is absorbed through the skin and replenishes the level of magnesium in the body. The salt also works to draw toxins out of the body and sedate the nervous system. The magnesium also helps your body  produce serotonin which is a chemical naturally released by the brain that elevates our mood.

2.An effective beauty treatment. Epsom salts and very cheap yet they make for a great skin treatment. They can be used with olive oil for a natural exfoliator for the skin and can also be used in a skin mask. Try mixing together one tablespoon of cognac, 1 egg, ¼ cup of nonfat dry milk, the juice of 1 lemon, and ½ tsp of Epsom salt. Apply to moistened skin and leave on for about twenty minutes before rinsing with water. This will draw the impurites out of the skin and make the skin feel supple and smooth.

3.Constipation treatment. For occasional constipation or irregularity, adults can mix 2 to 4 teaspoons into a cup of water until the salts are fully dissolved and drink. This can be used twice a day by taking the first treatment, waiting 4 hours and taking the second treatment if necessary.

Along with the above, Epsom salts can also be used for a variety of different treatments such as curing an oily scalp, easing sore muscles, and even as a home made fertilizer for your plants. The salts are cheap so keep a big bag around the house becuase they may come in handy.

It's true we know about the goodness of Epsom salt but we hardly use this salt, one reason maybe it's because we are so used to finished product, whatever we need for treating our  skin comes bottled or packaged that we don't remember to add that little extra. However there are some cosmetic brands who use the epsom salt as an active ingredient in masks and scrubs as well. If it's good for the skin and reduce stress we should try to make use of this natural product which is in it's purest form.
