Foods that are Hard to Digest
We all have problems with digestion at some point in our lives, and some people deal with it on a daily basis. Because our digestive systems are so sensitive to our diet, it is easy to get an upset stomach or constipation every now and then. It is important to eat a diet rich in fresh, unprocessed foods in order to ensure your system can work to the best of its ability. Here are five foods which can be hard to digest .
1. Fast food. Food like chicken nuggets or any other type of deep fried food are extremely high in fat and are hard on the stomach. There is no need to ever eat deep friend food-your stomach won’t agree with it, nor will your waist line.
2. Ice Cream. This delicious summertime treat may be tasty but hard to digest. Many people are lactose intolerant and even those which aren’t usually have a bit of a hard time with ice cream. Not only is it a dairy product, but it is usually filled with preservatives and sugar. Try substituting frozen yogurt for ice cream and your stomach will thank you for it.
3. Gum. Gum, notably the sugar free kind, quite often contains sorbitol. This ingredient can cause gas to build up in your stomach which can be very uncomfortable. Avoid chewing gum altogether or check the ingredient list before chewing.
4. Chocolate. This favorite may be a little harder to avoid than some of the others. Although dark chocolate is actually good for you, some people have trouble digesting various kinds of chocolate. People who suffer from gastro intestinal problems can experience difficulty digesting a very small piece of chocolate.
5. Spicy foods. Hot foods containing jalapeño or cayenne pepper can cause digestive problems for some individuals. They can irritate the esophagus on the way down and can also cause heart burn . Depending on your sensitivity you may want to cut down on spicy food or eat it with a condiment such as sour cream to minimize the irritation.
Each person’s digestive system is unique to the individual. What one person has trouble digesting can be fine for others. There are numerous kinds of digestive problems which can plague people. Be sure to see your doctor if you experience difficulty with your digestion regularly.
