Enhance Your Mood With Supplements and Diet
Your mood is determined by many things, your diet being one of them. Sure, there are outside influences that cause you to feel happy or sad, but those triggers are either enhanced or diminished by the various foods you eat. So, it is important to eat properly.
In article written for WebMD, Star Lawrence notes that you need to "Think of your body as an insanely complex, gooey car. Put in gas and oil (a balanced diet), and you're good to go. Put in nicotine; alcohol; caffeine; weird, manufactured fats; gummy, washed-out flour; and sugar, and it's like pouring sugar into the gas tank. You'll sputter, run on, stop and start, or stall." The higher octane and cleaner fuel you put in the better you'll run, and the better you'll feel.
The scientific reason for this is that the chemicals which control your mood are the neurotransmitters connected to Serotonin, and they run on sugars that come in the form of complex carbohydrates, and not the kinds of energy offered by chocolate bars and other processed foods. If your body is using un-balanced high sugar foods as a source of energy your insulin levels will spike quickly and then you'll have a crash. During that crash your mood will swing (usually the wrong way), you'll get tired and irritable, and you will lose focus. Over time these swings will become longer and happen more often unless you do something to prevent it.
Eating foods with complex carbohydrates, like whole grain breads, apples, soy, peaches and other fruits, will offer less of an immediate sugar shot and instead will give you something to pull on over time, giving your body the things it needs to stay happy and strong.
Mood Enhancers work using the complex carbohydrates that stimulate serotonin and bring feelings of calmness and wellbeing. Naturally occurring substances such as 5 HTP, St. John's Wort, and GABA are all connected to increased serotonin function and are found in the various mood enhancers offered by Astronutrition. By taking mood enhancers combined with a well balanced diet rich in naturally occurring sugars, you are working to increase your happiness and get rid of that bad mood. If you have persistent long lasting bouts with depression, you should consult a doctor.
