Drinking Tea Can Improve Your Health

The next time you find yourself standing in line at your favourite coffee shop you might want to take a look at the tea menu.  Opting for a hot cup of herbal tea instead of your usual caffeine fix, can actually improve your overall health.  Not only will you be saving yourself from the caffeine dehydration cycle, but you will also be giving your body a host of nutrients and antioxidants in the process.

Tea contains antioxidants that are highly beneficial for health.  Antioxidants found in tea can help to protect your body from the effects of aging.  Looking and feeling younger from the inside out is obviously a great reason to indulge in a little raspberry or mint blast.  However, antioxidants will also help your body rid itself of harmful toxins, countering some of the effects that environmental and toxic pollution wreak on our bodies.

Tea is also a great way to enjoy a hot beverage without getting hot under the collar.  Opting for a caffeine free tea instead of your usual double espresso will actually improve your mood and your chances of getting a decent night’s rest.  While one cup of coffee a day is generally fine, too many of us rely on several cups of Joe to get us through the day.  Even a caffeinated tea has only about 30 to 40 mg of caffeine, while a regular eight-ounce cup of coffee has approximately 135mg.  So if you want to avoid the jitters, dehydration and headache that can come with caffeine overload, even an Earl Grey will prove a better option.

Tea can also protect you from unwanted blood clots that increase your chances of heart attack and stroke.  Tea helps to unclog the arteries by keeping passage ways smooth.  A recent study conducted in Holland suggested that those people who drank two or three cups of tea or more a day had a seventy percent lower chance of fatal heart attack.  Now if this isn’t a good reason to head for the tea rack, we don’t know what is!

Tea is actually good for your teeth believe it or not.  This is, so long as you are not adding sugar to the drink.  Tea contains tannins and fluoride which actually help stave off plaque build-up.  So long as you can drink it sugar free, or with a good substitute such as Zylotol, than you’ll have every reason to keep smiling and showing off those pearly whites.

The benefits of tea are many.  Tea helps prevent against cancer, its calorie free, and certain types, such as green tea, can even boost your metabolism.  So next time you’re at the counter about to begin the long winded ordering process for a double, no fat, no foam, venti, vanilla latte, consider the reasons listed above and give it a second thought.

Instead of the regular tea a much healthier option is the green tea. It helps increase antioxidant levels in the body and prevents many types of cancers. 4-5 cups of green tea also helps in weight loss and also increases metabolism. Catechins in green tea help to inhibit glucose into fat cells. So whether its your regular tea or green tea, consuming in moderation is the right way towards good health.
