Until recently the importance of sea vegetables has been largely overlooked. In more recent years however more and more people are realizing the benefits of sea vegetables for their health. Sea vegetables have a host of health benefits and can add flavour and taste to a selection of dishes.
Dulce, Alaria, Kelp, Lava, Nori, Arame, Kumbe and Wakame are all popular sea vegetable varieties. And while the benefits of consumption have long been known in Asia, only recently are other countries taking notice. Most importantly, these vegetables can be added to the diet without much trouble. Adding small pieces to your favourite soups, sandwiches, stir-fries, and salads can give you the benefits of sea vegetables with very little hassle.
Sea vegetables have a host of health benefits including cancer risk reduction. The risk of breast cancer has been found to be particularly affected by sea vegetable consumption. A healthy intake of sea vegetables has also been found to help increase the body’s metabolic rate, accelerate the healing of wounds, and to be useful for certain types of skin conditions.
Sea vegetables also act as anti-inflammatory agents and can therefore help with conditions such as Arthritis, migraine headaches and other topical inflammatory ailments. Sea vegetables contain a host of vitamins and minerals that are useful for a variety of health conditions. Sea vegetables contain vitamins A, C, E and B12 all of which are important to the maintenance of the body’s functions
Sea vegetables also contain loads of essential minerals that can improve health overall. These minerals include boron, zinc, selenium, antimony, chromium, tin and bismuth. Many of these minerals are lacking in modern day foods. As soil quality continues to decline from agro-business style farming, the minerals that we used to get from vegetables and fruits are increasingly missing from our foods. Sea vegetables contrarily maintain their minerals. For this reason among others adding, some sea vegetables to your diet can be essential to promoting and maintaining optimum health.
The increasing popularity of sea vegetables has inspired many a new products. Sea vegetables can now be had in both liquid and powdered form for those who don’t have the time or inclination to add them to their meals. As some sea vegetables also have a pungent taste, opting for an alternate form can be a more pleasant alternative for those who find the taste disagreeable.
Sea vegetables are an important addition to a healthy diet. So be it a new addition to soup or another round of sushi, be sure to indulge a little. Sea vegetables offer important vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are too often lacking in modern diets.
