Tai Chi And Arthritis

Arthritis is a joint disorder that is caused by inflammation. Where two bones meet there is a joint and when one or both of these joints becomes inflamed athritis occurs. There are over one hundred different types of arthritis and the severity and causes vary greatly. Some are caused by general wear and tear of the body and others result from immune system problems, your genes, metabolic abnormalities, as well as a number of reasons that are still unknown.

There are no absolute cures for arthritis although many different things have been found to help. One of these is tai chi. Instead of downing potentially dangerous prescription drugs which can damage your liver, cause dependence and introduce a foreign chemical into your body, tai chi is a healthy and safe alternative to get relief from arthritis. Some call Tai Chi “moving meditation” and not only is it a great pain reliever and form of exercise but it does wonders for your mental state. Tai Chi is a meeting of the mind and body that helps the body heal itself. body heal itself. The best thing about Tai Chi is that anyone can do it – the young, the old, the fit, the not so fit are all capable. It is a slow and gentle exercise that makes you becomes aware of your space, breath and fluid body movements.  Elderly people who practice Tai Chi have been found to benefit from better sleep, less overall pain in the body, better balance, better posture, increased muscle strength and less stress.  Tai Chi has also been found to reduce the frequency and intensity of pain in arthritis sufferers as well as increase their joint movements.

Millions of people around the world suffer from arthritis and not just the elderly. Even children can suffer from arthritis pain which can be very dehabilitating and can put a great strain on the family and affect the person&undefined;s quality of life. Instead of living with the pain, using Tai Chi as well as other gentle exercises that increase blood flow and stimulate the immune system (yoga, swimming, biking, etc) will help the body heal itself in a natural and effective way.
