Although acupuncture is now often sought out by adults to cure everything from back pain to chronic diseases, in most parts of the world it is rarely practiced on children . The main reason for this is because parents may not think it is appropriate for children or their children may be afraid of needles. Contrary to popular belief, acupuncture can be quite effective for children to treat many symptoms in a more natural and healthy way.
One study undertaken by a Children&undefined;s Hospital in Boston studied the effect of acupunture on almost 250 children which ranged in age from about six months to 18 years old. These children were being treated for headaches, stomach problems, back pain and other types of pain that caused them discomfort on a regular basis. At the beginning of the study, the kids were asked to rate their pain level on a scale of 1 to 10. The study concluded that acupuncture was an extremely effective way to alleviate kinds of pain from all of these different ailments. At the beginning of the study the average score the kids gave their pain was an 8 but at the end it was a 3. The children were also reported to miss less school, have better sleeping patters and could participate in more extracurricular activities due to a decrease in their symptoms. Similar studies have also been done on children who suffered from migraines, enendometriosis in teenage girls, and chronic pain resulting from injuries. This study also found that the children were extremely satisfied with the affect of acupuncture on relieving their pain and also reported that 59% of the parents agreed that acupuncture significantly helped relieve their child&undefined;s symptoms.
Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years for a reason – it actually works. If you child is experiencing some form of pain or other ailment, acupuncture may be the alternative solution that you need. Looking for alternative means of therapy before resorting to prescription drugs is important if you value your child&undefined;s health.
