Summer Fun Without The Calories

No matter if you have any vacation time or not, there is a high probability that you will be sipping an alcohol drink at one point or another this summer.  With the endless BBQ’s, beach nights, and pool parties there is no way to avoid the summer drinks. Unfortunately, it is easy to pack on the pounds due to the massive amounts of calories contained in most of these drinks. Here are a few tips to stay on track but still have fun:

1. Avoid the blended drinks. Blended drinks are a summer staple but they also pack the largest amounts of calories. Daiquiris and margaritas are dangerous and can contain anywhere from 300 to 700 calories in just one drink! They are also filled with sugar and other preservatives if made from a pre made mix. Instead of downing these, opt for a spritzer, wine or light beer.

2. Drink water in between. Alternating alcohol drinks with water is a must do. It will keep you hydrated in the heat, keep you from getting drunk and will save you calories. Water will fill you up, causing you to drink less alcohol and therefore less liquid calories. You will thank yourself the next day.

3. Double the ice. Not only will your drink cool you down on a hot day, but the extra ice will cause you to have less alcohol and the alcohol you do have will be watered down. Adding double the ice is a simple way to stay hydrated and cut down your calories. Make sure to sip your drinks instead of knocking them back which will defeat the purpose.

Don’t sacrifice your fun for your diet this summer, but do be mindful of what you are ingesting. An easy way to cut calories is watching what you drink so sticking to water for the most part will ensure that you don’t put on pounds during the most revealing season of the year.
