Eye Health Shouldn't Be Overlooked

Eyesight is something that we all take for granted. You will never know how important it is until it is gone. Unfortunately, eye exams are one of the most commonly neglected check ups. These exams are absolutely crucial to your health because they can detect eye disorders early on so that the problem can be taken care of before it leads to loss of sight. Besides yearly check ups, here are three other things that you can do to keep your eyes in good health:

1.Give your eyes a break. A large number of people work with computers during the day which can be harmful to your eyes. People blink about 25% less than normal when they are at a computer which can lead to dry, itchy eyes and it also puts strain on them. What you can do while working is take a break every now and then to give your eyes a rest. It doesnt take long, simply look away from the screen for twenty to thirty seconds as often as possible. If you can, take a quick five minute break a few times throughout the day to close your eyes and let them rest.

2.Wear sunglasses. Protecting your eyes from UVA and UVA rays is just as important as protecting your skin. Wearing sunglasses that have a UVA and UVB filter will reduce your risk of getting cataracts or other eye problems. Everyone is at risk for eye damage from the sun all year long and glasses should be worn outside whenever possible.

3. Wear your glasses.  If you have glasses, wear them. This may seem too obvious but there are many people who don&undefined;t wear glasses because they don&undefined;t like the way they look or because of the inconvenience. If you don&undefined;t wear your glasses, the additional strain on your eyes from trying to see the blackboard, watch TV or surf the internet can actually make your eyesight worse.

Our eyesight is probably the most important of our five senses but many people take it for granted. Dont wait for something bad to happen to look after your eyes but take care of them now and get regular check ups to ensure your eyes are healthy.
