3 Unexpected Allergen Sources

Spring is notorious for one thing - allergies. If you have taken steps to minimize your contact with pollen but are still feeling stuffy, you may want to look at what else is irritating you. There are many surprising ways that you can be exposed to allergens-here are three of the top unexpected sources of allergy exposure:
1. Visitors. People who come over to your house commonly bring in with them pollen and animal hair which is stuck on their clothes. When they sit in your house this can easily transfer onto your furniture and everything they touch likely leaves traces of these irritants as well. In order to minimize your exposure you can vacuum after they leave.
2. Couch Pillows, Bedding, and Stuffed Toys. Items that are stuffed can contain many irritants, especially if they are not washed as often as they should be. If you have children who have stuffed animals that are always in use, you may be exposed to allergens and pollen due to the fact that their toys may not be washed as much as they should be (if ever!). To avoid these allergens try washing your couch pillows, bedding, linens and children’s stuffed toys at least once a week.
3. Dish Clothes & Bath Mats: Any material which contains moisturize has the potential to trap dust mites and grow mold. To avoid this from happening make sure to wash your dish clothes and towels every couple of days. Also, make sure to wash your bath mat weekly and hang it up to dry it out after use.
If you are looking for natural remedies to allergies, some people find that bee pollen helps. Although you may be irritated by pollen, taking it internally can actually help build up your body’s resistance to it and make you less sensitive in the spring and summer.
