Regular Check-Ups Save Lives
Visiting your doctor on a regular basis is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Early diagnosis on most diseases can save lives, and many times this cannot be done without regular check ups. So how do you make sure you get the most out of your yearly visit? Here are three ways to make sure you get the best out of your doctors visit each and every time.
Make a list. Often, many people save up their ailments and visit the doctor once, instead of going every time something minor is bugging them or they have a question or two. The problem with this is that once you are sitting in that chair you may get distracted or get off topic and forget one of the reasons that you are there. Taking a list in with you is smart and will ensure that you get all of your questions answered.
Get to know yourself. Each person is so individual and unique, and it is impossible for your doctor to know if something just feels wrong in your body. Many diseases and ailments have similar symptoms and it can be difficult for your doc to identify the real source of the problem. If you know your body inside and out and get familiar with it, you can properly instruct your doctor as to what exactly is wrong, giving them an easier path to diagnosis.
Don’t be shy. Doctors have heard everything. If you have something to ask them that seems embarrassing, there is no need to worry. Addressing all kinds of bodily issues is their job and the chances are they will not be shocked or put off by anything that you say. It is better to get your questions or problems out in the open so that you can live a healthy life .
It can be difficult to get an appointment with your doctor, so make the most of it. Don’t be afraid to set up multiple appointments or ask for a longer appointment either. Most docs only set aside 15 minutes of their time per patient unless you specify that you need more. Don’t feel bad - it’s your body.
