Tennis Elbow Common For Office Workers
Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is one of the most common injuries treated by physiotherapists. The exact cause of it is unknown but it does stem from overuse of certain muscles in the arm. It is believed that tennis elbow is caused from small tears of the tendons which attach forearm muscles to the arm bone at the elbow joint .
Tennis elbow can be developed by almost anyone, but it is most common in people who participate in sports activities frequently, and those who do manual labour. Individuals who type a lot tend to also develop elbow pain due to the overuse of this muscle. The pain that comes with tennis elbow is usually gradual and occurs over a number of years, but rarely it can come on suddenly. The age group most affected by tennis elbow are between 35 and 65 years old – both men and women are equally effective. The most common symptoms are caused by inflammation of the elbow area which includes wrist pain, weakness in grip, pain when the elbow is bent a certain way, pain in the forearm, and overall muscle tightness and a limited range of motion.
Treatment for tennis elbow varies on the severity of it. If you are having pain in this area see your doctor of a physiotherapist. A physiotherapist can recommend some stretches that will help or they may also recommend a regular massage to relieve tension in the elbow. Some use braces or tape to support the elbow and wrist. If you work at a computer, using an ergonomic keyboard and chair can greatly help this condition.
