Cheap Healthy Food For Bad Economy

With the economy as it is right now, everyone is looking for ways to save more money. Instead of opting for cheap fast foods that are less than nutritious, spend your hard earned money on these extremely cheap yet healthy foods.

Oats. Oats are full of fibre which helps keep you regular. They are also complex carbohydrates which keep your blood sugar level stable and keep you energized throughout the day. Oats have also been shown to lower cholesterol. All of those health benefits and oats are still one of the cheapest foods you can buy-for a few dollars you will have a big bag of oats which will last you weeks.

Potatoes. Even though potatoes get a bad rap, they are actually good for you as long as they are cooked properly. Stay away from frying them in fat or oil and stick to boiling potatoes and you will keep them healthy.. Eaten with the skin on, potatoes contain almost half a day’s worth of Vitamin C, and are a good source of potassium. A huge bag of potatoes generally costs about $5 or less.

Bananas.  Even organic bananas are cheap yet very nutritious. A great food for breakfast or a snack, bananas contain high amounts of potassium and fiber (9 grams for one). When they go bad you can even use them to make your own banana bread or muffins.

Just because you are broke doesn’t mean you have to eat unhealthy. There are tons of foods available today that are cheap yet contain all of the vitamins and minerals your body needs. For extra savings shop at farmers markets and local produce stands when possible.
