Preventing Aging Skin

Beautiful skin is one of the best assets a person can have. Your skin is the first thing people notice about you and clear, wrinkle free skin is immediately associated with beauty. Unfortunately as we get older our skin tends to change and wrinkles appear. So how do you prolong the aging process and hang onto that beautiful, youthful skin as long as you can?
Wrinkles are caused by many factors-age, pollutants, and sun exposure. As we age, our epidermal cells become thinner which means our skin is thinner. These cells decrease by about 10% per decade. As we get older we also produce less collagen which keeps our skin firm and smooth. We can&undefined;t prevent the natural deterioration of the body but we can take certain measures to keep our skin as healthy as possible for as long as possible. Up to ninety percent of premature skin aging is due to sun exposure. The suns rays contain harmful UVA and UVB rays which damage the skin and cause it to dry out-extreme overexposure can also cause the cells to mutate and turn into skin cancer. Use a high SPF on your face daily year round to protect your skin from premature aging. You can also use your diet to prevent premature aging. A diet rich in antioxidants such as those found in fruits and vegetables will keep your skin young looking more so than if you eat processed and fatty foods. Smoking also causes the skin to age at a much quicker level as it dries out your skin. If you are a smoker-even an occasional one-your skin is sure to show it.
There are many lifestyle changes that you can make which will benefit your skin. On a daily basis only wash your face twice at a maximum and do not use harsh soaps as this dries out the skin. It is also beneficial to use a good moisturizer twice a day, especially in the dryer winter months.
