5 Tips for Kid's Healthy Halloween
If you are one of the many health conscious parents who are not a big fan of Halloween, rest assured there are ways to save your kids health. Sure, Halloween revolves around candy but there are ways to make good parental decisions without depriving your kids from the festivities. Here are some tips to keep your children as healthy as possible on Halloween.
1. Feed them properly the day of. Before you take your children trick-or-treating, feed them a large, healthy meal to make sure that they do not binge on candy too much.
2. Set limits. If you children tend to eat a few pieces of candy and save the rest without being told to do so, you may not have to set limits. On the other hand if they tend to eat whatever candy is in sight you should consider making rules. Let them have a few pieces while trick or treating but make sure that it is clear that they must save the rest for another time. During the weeks after you can ration the candy to them so that they do not eat it in one sitting.
3. Make a deal. If your child is overweight or you really do not want them to eat most of the candy they collect, make a deal. For example give your child twenty five cents per candy that they can use to buy whatever they would like. You can also buy them a toy of their choice in exchange for their candy.
4. Practice what you preach. If you tell your children one thing but do another, the chances are they will not respect you or take what you say seriously. Leading by example is so important. If you want your children to eat their candy in moderation, then you too should refrain from eating candy by the handful.
5. Give out alternative snacks. If you don&undefined;t have children but do not want to encourage junk food eating for those that do, consider handing out something other than sweets. You can hand out stickers, small toys, or other more nutritious snacks such as organic sun chips, sugar free gum or pretzels.
Even though you may consider yourself a good parent while controlling your childs eating habits on Halloween, remember that it is only one day a year. Part of the fun of being a kid is that you get to participate in these special days. It is possible to let your kids have fun while still being a good parent.
