5 Ways to Enjoy a Healthy Fall

With fall on the horizon, you may want to look at making a few changes to your work out and health regimen. Fall is the season of change-kids go back to school, the weather starts to change, and even our bodies change during the fall and winter months. Here are five great fall fitness and health tips to make sure that your change is a good one.

1. Enjoy the outdoors. Just because it is getting a little chilly outside doesn’t mean you should lock yourself indoors. Take advantage of the crisp weather and the changing leaves and get outside for a run or hike while the weather is still nice enough to do so.

2. Take advantage of your alone time. If you have kids you are probably breathing a sigh of relief that they are back in school. Fall usually finds parents with a little extra time on their hands. Plan your workouts around your free time.

3. Join a gym. If you aren’t already a member you may want to look at joining a gym. Although it is great to get outdoors in the fall when you can, the reality is at some point it starts getting cold enough that you start to avoid it. By getting a head start on a gym membership you will have someplace to go if the weather is miserable.

4. Plan your meals around the season. Fall is a great time to plan meals because the farmers markets usually have a ton of food which is on sale. Buying bulk fruit and veggies and freezing what you can will save you money through the winter and ensure that you always have something healthy on hand. Fall is also a great time for squash, pumpkins, and comfort foods which are all rich in vitamins and minerals.

5. Make a date with your family to stay in. Sometimes there is nothing better than curling up on the couch and watching a movie when it’s raining outside. Plan a night to chill out with your loved ones and play games or watch a movie-anything to de-stress yourself.

Fall is the perfect time to get in shape, hang out with your family, and relax. Even though summer is over, don’t fall into the routine of the winter blues just yet. Take this time to exercise, hang out with your family, and take advantage of some alone time.
