Fun, Healthy Mode of Transportation

For most people, riding their bike is nothing but a fond childhood memory. You may want to reconsider dusting off your old bicycle or even buying a new one. Not only is it an eco friendly mode of transportation, but cycling can do wonders for your health.

Cycling is great cardiovascular exercise and will make your heart stronger. A bicycle which has several different speeds gives you an option on how hard you need to work and is great for beginners. When you first start out try biking in the higher gears so that you do not have to work as hard. As your cardiovascular health increases you can challenge yourself by biking in lower gears. Cycling is also very gentle on the joints unlike some other exercises such as running. It can also increase bone mass, or at least stop it from decreasing. As we get older many people encounter the problem of osteoporosis which can lead to easily broken bones. Cycling regularly can help your bones and can even be used as a painless way to exercise if you already suffer from bone or joint problems. Bicycling also increases blood flow and circulation throughout the body. This can prevent blood clots and is good for skin appearance. Cycling is a great workout for the legs, lower back, and butt. You will notice after only a few weeks or bicycling regularly that you are more toned in these areas. Your balance will also improve through cycling regularly and in turn your core strength will improve.

If you are thinking about getting into cycling, try easing into it. If your work is in cycling distance try biking there a few times a week. Not only will you save on gas but you will tone up and feel better. It can be more exercise than you think so be sure to stretch after each ride to avoid cramping.
