What is Homeopathy?
It seems that there are hundreds of choices when it comes to the path for health. Whether you choose Traditional Chinese Medicine, or Homeopathy, or Western methods, they are all leading toward getting you feeling better. But what are the differences?
The word ‘Homeopathy’ is derived from the combination of two Greek words: Homeo, meaning similar, and Pathos meaning suffering. The basic premise of Homeopathy is that the human immune system is built to respond to any imbalance within the body. Homeopathy contends that offering substances to the body that create the characteristics of illness in a diluted form, helps to develop the ‘knowledge’ needed for fighting illness. They aim to stimulate the body’s natural defense mechanisms.
To be a Homeopathic practitioner a person must be trained. The amount of training varies on location or country. In Europe, for example, many countries require three to six years of training before becoming certified. In the United States is varies from degree and diploma programs to several years of study. Choosing the right practitioner is important. Ask to see certification, and talk to other patients.
