Choose Your Food Wisely
1. Bagel VS Donuts. Which would you pick as a breakfast option if you were trying to be healthy and keep your calorie count down? Most people think that bagels are healthier than donuts. This is actually wrong - when it comes to these two foods the donut is actually healthier. Bagels are oversized and very dense which requires your body much longer to digest. Eating one bagel is equivalent to at least 5 pieces of bread and is about 450 calories! If you add cream cheese to that you are probably talking around 550 calories just for breakfast. Trying to lose weight on that amount of food for breakfast is not going to happen easily. On the other hand, although donuts aren’t exactly good for you and have more sugar they only pack in about 250 calories.
2. Turkey Bacon VS Regular Bacon. Bacon lovers that have sacrificed their real meat for turkey bacon in the hopes of being healthier can rejoice. In comparison, real bacon is actually better for you than turkey bacon is, plus it tastes much better. Real bacon actually has much less sodium , the same amount of fat and calories and more protein than turkey bacon does. Keep in mind that bacon has saturated fat so you should eat it in moderation but when you do go for the real thing and enjoy.
3. Chips VS Popcorn. If you are craving a crunchy snack but want to minimize calories you probably reach for the popcorn. Chips have had a bad reputation and for good reason, but when you examine the type of popcorn you are eating they usually come out on top. Most people buy microwavable popcorn which contains a very high amount of processed ingredients to give it that buttery flavor. It is also very high in salt. Furthermore, if you popcorn isn’t organic, chances are you are being exposed to a high amount of toxins. On the other hand, certain chips can be a better option for a snack. Take blue tortilla chips for example. They contain 20% more protein than the white corn chips, minimal salt, less startch and are lower on the glycemic index making them a great option for those with diabetes. Paired with some home made salsa, you have yourself a delicious treat.
Instead of believing what you always have about foods, do your research. If you are trying to lose weight and nothing is coming off take a second look at your food choices because you may be eating something that is hindering your progress and not even know it.

'Choosing wisely' that's where most of us fail. We are all educated and knows what is health and hygiene but we are not serious about it, it's only after we face the consequences we become serious. Our busy lives also requires us to be forever on a tight schedule so we don't have time to cook even a decent meal and we cannot compromise with punctuality because we are bound by the 'golden handcuff' As long as its food we grab anything on the way, and we have a notion that there are enough fast foods in the world and with this habit we start liking the tastes of junk foods. This preference creeps into our homes and make its way into our plates, so we end up loving the bacons sizzling in oil, chips and all those calorie loaded foods. Ultimately a host of diseases starts showing their symptoms. The moral is- Health is wealth, choose food wisely to live a happy and healthy life.
