Best Foods for Oral Health

Unbelievably, the foods that you consume can affect your oral health as much as whether or not you brush your teeth or floss. Since your oral health is directly related to the health of your body, keeping your mouth clean and healthy should be just as important as keeping the rest of you healthy. Here are the top six foods to eat to keep your smile beautiful, and keep your mouth healthy.

1. Celery: Celery is not only great for you as it is mostly water, but it is also abrasive, which cleans teeth. Furthermore, because of the amount of chewing that celery requires, it will cause your mouth to produce more saliva which kills harmful bacteria and fights cavities.

2. Cheese: Cheese has been shown to balance the PH level in your mouth, thereby fighting cavities in teeth. It also preserves and rebuilds important tooth enamel and produces saliva which can fight off bacteria in the mouth.

3. Kiwis: Kiwis provide one of the highest doses of vitamin C of all fruits. As Vitamin C is essential for your gums, this fruit is great for promoting oral health, as well as numerous other health benefits. Vitamin C helps your gums by making sure the collagen network is strong and can fight off bacteria.

4. Onions: Even though onions are not great for your breath, they are antibacterial, and destroy harmful bacteria which can reside in your mouth. The most beneficial onions are those eaten raw, so try adding a few slices to your sandwich.

5. Sesame Seeds: Seeds not only taste great but are good for cleaning in between teeth by removing plaque, and also building up tooth enamel.

6. Mushrooms: Mushrooms, especially Shitake mushrooms, have been found to contain a specific sugar which aids in plaque prevention.

Along with eating a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy oral routine such as flossing, using mouth wash, and brushing your teeth at least two times a day will ensure you have great oral health. It is also recommended to go to your dentist every six months for a cleaning and a check up.

I'm wondering about how to use the sesame seeds? I've tried celery and it works but I think none of the foods we eat helps in removing the stains caused by tea or coffee. Try this for stains- take a small amount of table salt, add some lemon drops, you can either use your toothbrush or your index finger to clean the teeth. I've been doing this for years now and every time I do it, it brings back the natural color of my teeth. I saw some some pictures on gum disease, they looked sickly. Our mouth is like the gateway to good health because of what we eat and drink. We should give importance to Oral health
