Beat Cancer with Red Wine and Chocolate

A new study presented at the TED Conference gives us another reason to top up your wine glass and have another piece of chocolate – these decadent delights are potent cancer killers.

Red grapes and dark chocolate, along with blueberries, garlic, soy and teas starve cancer while strengthening the body, according to head researcher William Li. "We are rating foods based on their cancer-fighting qualities," Li said. "What we eat is really our chemotherapy three times a day."

The above foods contain cancer-fighting chemicals that choke off the blood supplies to tumors, eventually leading them to starve to death. "There is a medical revolution happening all around us," Li said. "If we're right, it could impact on consumer education, food service, public health, and even insurance agencies."

The study noted that some foods were either more or as effective in battling cancer cells that approved cancer drugs. Taken together with medication, produced a 1-2 punch that was more effective in fighting cancerous tumors.

This is encouraging as cancer drugs are potentially expensive and a dietary cancer treatment may be a solution in fighting and preventing cancer. Who doesn't love a little chocolate and red wine on Valentine's day?
