5 Tips for Winter Skin Care
Harsh winds and colds spells in the winter can cause dry, irritated skin which can be hard to manage. Here are a few tips to keep your skin vibrant and healthy even during the colder winter months.
1. Use a humidifier. A humidifier in your home will help replace moistness in the air and is great for your dry skin. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on one, buy two or three smaller and cheaper versions and place them in the main rooms in your house for the same effect.
2. Moisturize frequently: After washing your skin, you only have three minutes to stop the evaporation of water from your skin-so act fast! Immediately after washing your face or body, apply an oil based moisturizer to lock in the moisture and keep skin healthy, supple, and smooth.
3. Do not bathe or shower in hot water. Very hot water can actually scald skin, and remove its natural moisturizing lipids, making it more dry and irritated. Try to wash in warm water to maintain the skins natural moisture levels.
4. Keep hydrated: Your skin’s health is a direct indicator of your internal health. Try at least 8 glasses of water a day and be sure to eat lots of water filled fruits and veggies which will also supply much needed vitamins and nutrients to your skin.
5. Exfoliate. Dead skin cells need to be sloughed off every two to three days to prevent them from building up and causing dryness. Try to use gentle exfoliates; sugar is also a great substitute if you have no exfoliating facial products available.
