Your heart is your most important organ and it is also the one that you have to take the most care of.  You have to exercise to keep it strong, stay away from alcohol and cigarettes which can do irreversible damage and eat heart healthy foods to keep it in tip top shape. Here are five heart healthy snacks to add to your diet:

1.Cantaloupe, cottage cheese & cinnamon. This delicious and easy to prepare snack has a number of benefits when it comes to your heart health . The cantaloupe contains a high number of antioxidants, the cottage cheese gives you lean protein and calcium without the fat and the cinnamon adds flavour and also contains antioxidants.

2.Yogurt and berries. This snack is tastes more like a treat than a healthy snack. Yogurt is great for your digestion and also lowers cholesterol which can cause heart attacks and heart diseases. Add some berries in there and you have a nutrient packed snack.

3.Homemade soup. Soup can be a healthy filled with very little calories. Being overweight increases your chances of heart disease and stroke significantly. Make your own soup at home with a low sodium broth and add tons of veggies to increase nutrient content.

4.Nuts. The best heart healthy nuts are walnuts, pecans, and almonds. Walnuts are especially effective and lowering bad cholesterol levels and reducing inflammation in the body. Pecans have a very high antioxidant content and almonds are great for lowering blood pressure.

5.Oatmeal and flax: Steel cut oats make an amazing breakfast or mid day snack which will give you tons of energy. Oats are full of soluble fiber which helps lower cholesterol. 3 fat which are extremely good for the heart.

The best heart healthy snacks are those that are simple, wholesome and nutritious. Stay away from anything that is processed or high in saturated fats.
