5 Foods for Healthy Skin

Along with a proper skin care regimen, eating the right foods makes a big factor in skin health and appearance. But what are the right foods to eat? Here are foods to promote skin health.

 1. Nuts. Brazil nuts, almonds, and walnuts are all good for your skin. Brazil nuts   have especially high amounts of selenium. Selenium is a mineral that improves elasticity of the skin, curbs skin infections, and helps clear acne. Selenium is also necessary for the body to produce glutathione which helps the skin maintain its collagen.

2. Carrots. Raw carrots or freshly made carrot juice is especially good for the skin because they contain beta carotene. The body converts beta carotene to Vitamin A that is used by the body for many different processes. Carrots are also high in Vitamin C which has been thought to be the secret to beautiful skin for centuries. Vitamin C is an antioxidant which diminishes free radicals which can cause aging of the skin and a decrease in collagen.

3. Pomegranate. Pomegranate juice is also a potent antioxidant but it also contains anthocyanins which strengthen the walls of blood vessels which supply nutrients to the skin. Pomegranates are great for preventing spider veins.

4. Avocados. Although avocados are high in fat, the fat is good fat which is good for your skin. Omega 3 fatty acids are essential for skin health and will keep skin young and supple looking.

5. Green tea. Green tea is good for your skin because it is an anti inflammatory and may even prevent skin cancer. It also contains skin friendly vitamin D, K, & C as well as zinc, riboflavin, calcium, iron, and magnesium.

As well as eating right you can ensure your skin is healthy by getting lots of rest, exercising, and living a balanced, stress free lifestyle. Astronutrition carries a variety of skin care products and cosmetics line to keep you looking and feeling your best.
