3 Weird But Nutritious Foods

If you feel like you are stuck in a diet rut it may be time to branch out. Many people who are mindful of what they eat tend to get stuck in a rut of eating the same old foods day in and day out. Generally people know what is healthy and know what it is they should be eating, but have troubles coming up with meal ideas that incorporate their favorites of these. Another spinach salad? No thanks. Here are three weird yet amazingly nutritious foods that you should try:

1.Arame: Arame is a sea vegetable that isn&undefined;t exactly mainstream. It is harvested off the coast of Japan and is very nutritious. Arame contains a significant amount of vitamins and minerals such as iron and zinc. It is the perfect addition to soups and salads because it has a  mild taste and will not stand out in any food.

2.Yerba Mate: You have probably heard of this type of tea by now because many coffee shops have caught on to the craze. Yerba mate is a drink that is made from the leaves and stems of a powerful rainforest tree in South America. This tea is extremely energizing and contains a massive amount of antioxidants-even more than red wine and green tea .

3.Kohlrabi: The good news is that you don&undefined;t have to be able to prounce the name to eat it. Kohlrabi is related to cabbage and broccoli and is a root vegetable. It isn&undefined;t that hard to find and you may have even seen it in your grocery store before. It is either light greenish in color or purple and white striped. It tastes similar to radishes and can be easily added to salads or stir fries to give them a surprising crunch. This vegetable is loaded wtih vitamin C, postassium, and phytochemicals which fight cancer.

Make it a goal to try at least one new food or new recipe every day. Chances are that you will find it easier to stick with a low calorie, high nutrient diet if it is interesting and satisfying.
