Feeling your best not only means eating right, getting plenty of rest and adequate physical activity but it also means looking your best. Personal hygiene care and grooming yourself is healthy for your self esteem and self image. Both men and women should put time and care into their appearance. Here are three ways to help you look your best:
1. Prevent and Reversing Hair loss. Hair loss affects both men and women young and old. There are a number of factors that play a role in hair loss - genetics, age, health and prescription drugs are just a few. Fortunately there are a number of things that you can do to prevent further hair loss and stimulate growth. This includes eating Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Salmon sardines, herring and mackerel contain high levels of Omega 3’s and black currant oil and evening primrose oils both contain Omega 6 fatty acids. Hemp seeds hearts are also an excellent source of both of these.
2. Treat dandruff. There is nothing worse than seeing someone with dark clothing on and white flakes on their shoulders. Dandruff is nothing more than dry skin on the scalp caused by eczema and/or climate and genetic factors but it can be embarrassing and hard to get rid of. To treat dandruff use a gentle shampoo that is moisturizing daily until the dandruff goes away. Don’t use anything that has a heavy scent or perfume as additives can further dry out the skin. Also try taking a black currant oil supplement which promotes healthy skin and hair. Ground flaxseed and fish oil is also great for moisturizing from the inside out.
3. Treat a bad complexion. Acne is not just for teenagers. In fact, many people don’t get pimples until their 20’s or even 30’s. There are many factors which play a role including genetics, diet, hormones and skin care. If you have acne and want desperately to get rid of it start by looking at what you are putting in your diet. Cut out alcohol, drugs, caffeine and any junk food. Stick to lots of water and whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. Secondly be careful of what you put on your skin. Don’t wash with harsh soaps and don’t use toners or other creams that contain lots of additives. Tea tree oil products should be used to clear acne in a safe way without drying out your skin.
Taking care of yourself is important and should not be looked at as vanity. Put yourself first and you will feel better about yourself and have more energy to give to others.
