3 Ways To Get Your Kid's Eating Healthy
The food that kids consume at an early age is a huge factor in determining their health later on in life. Studies have shown that the food choices children will make when they are older are shaped largely by those foods that children consume when they are younger. Parents are essentially forming their children’s health choices for the years to come, which is a huge responsibility. Unfortunately, getting kids to eat their fruits and veggies can be a daunting task.
Here are a few tips to get your children on the right track to a healthy diet and lifestyle which will last for the rest of their lives.
1. Make healthy eating fun. Sit down with your child and discuss which foods they like and dislike. Using these foods as a guideline, try to plan out fun ways to eat healthy food-fruits and vegetables can be cut up in fun shapes or organized to make a picture on a plate.
2. Use Praise. When you start encouraging healthy eating and rewarding it with praise or a “treat” that is non food related, such as a trip to a favorite park or zoo, your child will be more likely to want to choose these foods regularly.
3. Practice what you preach. Children are highly influenced by what those around them are doing, especially their parents. If you minimize the amount of junk food in the home, and are always eating a healthy diet yourself, it will easily become part of their every day lifestyle too.
Although it may take a while to introduce your child to a different way of eating if they have already developed a taste for “junk food” or unhealthier food choices, it will be well worth it in the end. Another way to make sure they are getting the vitamins and nutrients needed for normal growth is to give them a kids’ multivitamin daily.
