3 Ways To Cope With Anxiety

Anxiety is a terrible feeling and one that no one should have to live with. Not only does it plague your mental health but it can actually make you physically ill and tired from lack of sleep. Life is always going to be full of uncertainties and many people have a hard time coping with the unknown.  Controlling your anxiety levels and keeping a level head is something that most people learn when they are children but unfortunately many people do not have a secure childhood or experience certain traumas throughout life which can make them overly anxious. Here are a few ways to cope with your anxiety :

1.Be tolerant. Be tolerant of yourself, of other people, of whatever situations that life may present to you and to feeling ok with feeling uncertainty. Part of being an adult is having responsibilities, managing day to day stress and taking responsibility for your actions. These things are never easy and there are points at which you will naturally feel stressed but anxiety does not have to be a part of your daily experience. By accepting things as they are and accepting that things are not certain while being tolerant you will find you are better able to avoid anxiety.

2.Get out of your mind. Anxiety is caused by stories that you make up in your mind. Most anxieties are not a reality, but a story that you make up. What your mind can imagine is almost always worse than reality. By living in the moment and not making up “what if” scenarios, you will avoid a lot of unwanted anxiety. Always remember to be rational and think with a level head.

3.Meditation. It has been shown over and over again that meditation eases anxiety and brings you peace and makes you more in touch with the present moment. Meditation can take many forms so find one that works for you. Whether it is yoga or merely sitting by yourself in a quiet room while in a deeply relaxed state, take some time for yourself and meditate regularly to manage anxiety .

Anxiety every now and then is completely natural. This feeling is part of a natural response which is triggered to alert of us of potential danger. It is necessary to help us survive but it doesn’t have to get out of hand.
