3 Benefits of Vitamin E

Vitamin E, or alpha-tocopherol, is a fat soluble vitamin that is not toxic to the human body and is actually an antioxidant. This vitamin is so effective as an antioxidant that in restaurants it is often it is added to oils and other foods to keep them from going bad. Other vitamins such as Vitamin A and D can be toxic if taken in high doses but vitamin E has proven to be extremely safe and is even quite antibacterial. Not only is this vitamin safe is commonly used for the following:

1. Skin care. Vitamin E oil is extremely effective for softening skin, as well as using as prevention for fine lines and wrinkles. Burns can also be safely treated with Vitamin E, as it speeds up the healing process and is gentle on the skin. Vitamin E oil is also commonly used to heal scars, treat eczema, and rashes.

2. Promotes healthy blood flow. Vitamin E breaks down blood clots in the circulatory system and even prevents more from forming.

3. Promotes heart health. Not only does Vitamin E regulate blood clots, but it strengthens and regulates the heart beat. Doctors have recommended Vitamin E to treat heart attacks, angina, and congenital heart disease in some patients.

Vitamin E can be found in many oils such as vegetable oil, safflower oil, corn oil, and olive oil. It is also found naturally in many foods such as avocados, sunflower seeds, almonds, sweet potatoes, and peanut butter. One thing to keep in mind is that vitamin E is destroyed by heat, so raw sources of food are better to eat. The recommended daily dose of Vitamin E is about 15mg for adults each day. No wonder more lotions are incorporating this vitamin as well. Another function of Vitamin E is that it is important in the formation of red blood cells and helps the body to utilize Vitamin K. Other food sources of Vitamin E are corn, nuts, olives,asparagus, spinach and green leafy vegetables.
