3 Attributes Of Longevity
Although no one knows what life has in store for them, there are many little things that you can do to add years to your life. The life expectancy of the average person is up about 51% just from 1990 to 2000. For this we can thank the technological advances in the health industry, cutting edge medicines and treatments and the internet which gives everyone quick access to so much useful information. If you are curious as to whether or not you are healthy enough to live a long life, consider the following:
1. Your stomach is relatively flat. You don’t have to have a six pack to live longer , but a relatively flat stomach indicates that you will live longer than most. Women who have too much stomach fat are 20% more likely to die sooner than their flat belly peers. Furthermore, people who are round around the middle are much more likely to suffer from heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
2. You are a vegetarian or flexitarian. Apologizes to the meat eaters, but those who stick to a mostly plant based diet have been shown to live longer than those who eat meat regularly. This is due to the fact that meat contains a high amount of saturated fat and usually added hormones or other toxins that can damage the cells of the body, leading to cancer or other health problems. Also, fruits and veggies are packed with nutrients and antioxidants which keep you healthy and extend your life expectancy.
3. You watch your calorie intake. Your caloric intake should depend on factors such as your gender, height, weight and activity level but those that restrict their calories to less than 2,000 a day are much more likely to live a long life. And remember it’s not just how much you eat, but what you eat. Make every calorie count by eating only nutritious foods and avoiding the junk that clogs up your body.
No matter what your physical state right now, it is never too late to make healthy choices that will increase your chances of living longer . The most important changes you can make for yourself are to exercise almost every day (at least half an a hour of cardio mixed with weights every other day), cut out unnecessary sugar and fat from your diet, eat lots of veggies, take multivitamins and avoid alcohol, cigarettes and drugs.
